Shoplifter allegedly steals chocolate bars, sandwiches, and lottery tickets

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On January 18th, 2019, a 27 year old male entered a business in the 000’ block of Willowdale Cres and stole a number of chocolate bars, sandwiches, and lottery tickets. On January 31st, 2019, police located the individual as he was already incarcerated at BCC on unrelated charges. He was arrested and charged for the theft and will appear in court on February 1, 2019.

Resident Says 9th & Van Horne “A Hotspot for Dangerous Driving” following todays accident

Over the noon hour on Thursday, Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and Brandon Police Service attended a collision in the 9th St and Van Horne Ave intersection. Two vehicles collided, which sent one off the road way and into a snowbank. A local resident who lives near the intersection says, "I always see people blowing the stop sign here, they seem to never slow down, and it's dangerous." They continued with, "Some day, there's going to be a pedestrian who gets hurt or killed here. People need to slow down and be more careful at this intersection." Thankfully there were no injuries at this collision, and fire crews cleared within 20 minutes.  Photos by: Liam Pattison Photography.  

Man charged with resisting arrest found to be in possession of a knife and hatchet

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On January 31st, 2019, at 12:36am police attended to a residence in the 3100’ block of McDonald Ave for a disturbance. Upon arrival a 24 year old Sioux Valley man was located outside of the residence breaching his probation and recognizance orders. While police placed him under arrest he resisted their attempts. After a brief struggle he was handcuffed and found to be in possession of a knife and hatchet. He was charged accordingly and lodged at BCC for court in the morning.

ACC offers new advanced diplomas in business, ag starting this September

Assiniboine Community College has announced several new advanced diploma programs starting this fall, giving learners the opportunity to hone their knowledge and abilities in specialized business and agriculture disciplines. “These programs are designed for learners to sharpen their skills in focused subject areas and ladder their existing education to branch into new fields,” said Bobbie Robertson, Dean of Business at Assiniboine. “In less than a year, a person can graduate and put what they’ve learned into action, seeking out new job opportunities, or advancement along their current career path.” The new one-year advanced diploma programs to be offered on campus in Brandon starting this September include: Accounting Agribusiness Finance Human Resource Management Indigenous Financial Management Marketing Advanced credentials are a growing area of program offerings at Assiniboine and require that applicants have a previous post-secondary credential, such as a university degree or college diploma. “Students build on prior learning and experience to enhance their critical thinking abilities,” said Robertson. “They expand their competency into other subjects that they can then apply in practical career settings.” The college already offers several other advanced diplomas including Early Childhood Program Management, Geographical Information Systems, and Sustainable Food Systems. Local police pursuit ensues following stolen work truck Tuesday evening

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On January 29, 2019, at 8:55pm, police were advised a work truck had been stolen from a business in the 1900’ block of Park Ave. The vehicle was located in the 500’ block of 26th Street. Police attempted a traffic stop and the driver refused to stop. Police pursued the vehicle; however, terminated the pursuit a short time later. The vehicle was later located abandon in the 300’ block of 16th Street. Police continue to investigate.
