New stiffer penalties for distracted driving in Manitoba starts tomorrow

Source: RCMP in Manitoba Approximately 1000 people are charged each year by Manitoba RCMP for using a handheld electronic device while driving. Stronger penalties come into effect Nov. 1. Using a handheld electronic device while driving will lead to a 3-day suspension. Subsequent offences within a 10-year period will lead to a 7-day suspension. A temporary driving permit will be issued at the same time of the suspension and is valid until 11:59 pm of the following day. This allows you to get home and make alternate arrangements. Manitoba driver`s licences will be confiscated and can be picked up when the suspension is over (pick up location will be on the temporary driving permit). Out of province driver`s licences are not confiscated.

Two suspects arrested after allegedly spraying two people with bear mace

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On Tuesday night at approximately 10:22pm, Police received a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 2200 block of Brandon Avenue. Police attended and learned two people were sprayed with bear mace. Police apprehended two suspects, a male and a female, found in a backpack the bear mace. A 14yr old Brandon male youth was arrested for Assault with a Weapon and Breach of Probation not to possess weapons and lodged at BCC to appear in Court on October 31st. The female provided a false name to Police. Police learned her true identity and she was breaching her Probation curfew condition. A 14yr old Brandon female youth was arrested and released to appear in Court on November 13th.

Headstones knocked over at Brandon Cemetery

The following series of photos were submitted to BDNMB.CA of some headstones that were knocked over at the Brandon Cemetery over the weekend.  Accordingly to an employee of the City of Brandon about 25 headstones were knocked over in total and that employees had put them back in place Monday morning.  Apparently, there was "very minimal to no damage to the headstones".  

Brandon man allegedly found in possession of meth and cocaine

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On October 29, 2018, a 32-year-old male was stopped while driving a vehicle in the 200 blk 6th St. He was a Prohibited Driver and was arrested. Upon being searched, a small quantity of meth and cocaine was found on him. He was released to appear in court on a later date on charges of Drive While Disqualified, Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Woman allegedly damages 18th Street business window, now has to pay for damaged window

Source:  Brandon Police Service Media Release On Sunday evening at approximately 7:15pm, Police received a call of a disturbance at an establishment in the 300 block of 18th Street. Police attended and learned a female caused some damage to a window and had an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for Fail to Attend Court. Police arrested a 38yr old Brandon woman for the Warrant of Arrest and released her to appear in Court on November 29th. The woman will pay for the damaged window.
