Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release A 29 year old man from Brandon is in custody, charged with Aggravated Assault following an incident at a residence in the 1200 block of 6th St shortly after midnight.  Officers responded to a disturbance in an apartment and discovered the male victim with a stab wound to his upper chest.   He was transported to BRHC for treatment of serious injuries and remains in hospital.  The accused will appear in court on Sunday.

Shortly after 3:00 Saturday afternoon, Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and Brandon Police Service responded to the intersection of 9th St and Princess Ave for a two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival it was determined that there were some fluids leaking, but thankfully nobody was trapped or in need of medical transport. Manitoba Justice advises the 2019 rent guideline has been set at an increase of 2.2 per cent and will take effect Jan. 1, 2019. The guideline is determined annually based the Manitoba Consumer Price Index (CPI) and applies to most residential rental property including apartments, single rooms, houses and duplexes.  The guideline does not apply to: •    rental units renting for $1,510 or more per month as of Dec. 31, 2018; •    personal care homes; •    non-profit housing with subsidized rent; •    approved rehabilitated rental units; and •    new buildings that are: – less than 15 years old, where an occupancy permit was first issued or a unit first occupied after April 9, 2001, or; – less than 20 years old, where an occupancy permit was first issued or a unit first occupied after March 7, 2005. Landlords may apply for an increase above the guideline if they can show the guideline will not cover cost increases they have incurred. Tenants must receive written notice of a rent increase at least three months before the increase takes effect.  For example, for a rent increase to take effect Jan. 1, 2019, tenants must receive notice by Sept. 30, 2018.  With few exceptions, rent can only be increased once a year. Brandon, MB – The tree canopy at a popular community greenspace in Brandon has been strengthened today thanks to a community tree-planting event made possible with funding from the CN EcoConnexions - From the Ground Up program. The City of Brandon recently received a grant of $14,200 through the CN EcoConnexions - From the Ground Up program, which works to provide funding for the greening of municipal and First Nations properties across Canada, especially in communities along its rail lines. This year, more than 140 applications were received through the program from Canadian communities of all types and sizes, and Brandon was one of 27 successful recipients. The City of Brandon has matched the funding it received to purchase a total of 98 trees and 31 shrubs of varying species to augment the greenspace at Kin Park, located at the corner of First Street and Aberdeen Avenue. A community tree-planting event held today at Kin Park recognized all those involved in making the project possible. In celebrating the initiative, Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest noted that park patrons of all ages will benefit from the ecological and social aspects that the new trees will provide. “The wide variety of tree species the community has joined us in planting today will work to create bio-diversity in the area, where our past practice has perhaps been more of a monoculture approach. Destinee Jones, 18 years of age, has been missing since September 11th, 2018. Destinee was last seen wearing black pants with a white stripe down the side, a black shirt and black high top runners. Destinee is described as aboriginal, 105 lbs (47 kilos), 5’4 ft with brown hair dyed red and cut in a mohawk style, slim build and medium complexion. Destinee Jones whereabouts is unknown and may have been traveling to Reston and possibly driving in a grey Buick 4 door car. No plate #.
