Brandon Man in Custody After Trying to Flee Traffic Stop

A 28-year old passenger of a vehicle tried to run from police, following a vehicle stop in the city's north end of Brandon on Friday evening. Police say they knew the man had outstanding warrants of arrest, attempted to arrest and remove him from the vehicle, when he tried to make a break for it. According to a release the suspect was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. The man has a total of nine arrests for warrants including: Break and enter x 2, fail to appear in Court, mischief to property, public mischief and breach of Probation x 4.

Brandon Event Scheduled to Break World Record

An attempt to break the current world record of 1580 people dressed as Superheroes in one area is scheduled to take place on October the 1st in Brandon, MB. The event, being dubbed as “Grim Acres Be A Superhero in The Fight Against Cancer”, is being held from 1-4 pm inside the Manitoba Room of the Keystone Centre. Everyone is invited to attend, and costumes (recognized superheroes from books, movies, comics) will have to adhere to the rules of the Guiness criteria. Costumes will need to be approved by Guiness prior to the event.  Those looking to submit character ideas are asked to do so by February the 28th. Admission is free, and donations for the Canadian Cancer Society will be accepted at the door. Both music and entertainment will be provided . Multiple Arrests for Domestic Assault in Brandon

A 29-year-old female from Brandon was arrested for Domestic Assault, in one of two incidents of domestic assault, as reported by Brandon City Police on Tuesday. According to police, the suspect punched the boyfriend in the face, and kicked him in the groin, sometime on Sunday evening. She was arrested at 8:33 pm on Monday evening, and is scheduled to appear in court sometime in February. In a second incident officers arrested a man for Domestic Assault and Breach of Recognizance following the report of an assault at a residence in the 1000 Block of 7th St in Brandon on Monday night.. The suspect, a 21 year old male, had left the scene by time the police arrived however they were able to track him down a short time later that evening. Female Arrested for Possession of Stolen Property

A Brandon female has been arrested for possession of stolen property following a theft at a business in the Corral Centre on Saturday evening. Police say they received a call at approximately 7:00 pm from a store regarding a female inside the store, who had previously been banned from attending. The female had already existed the property when the police arrived. Police reviewed video from the store, and the video showed the female leaving in a vehicle. Video also showed that a male, from the same vehicle, had come into the store and stole a 55” TV. The female, and the stolen television, were tracked to an address on Queens Crescent where she arrested and also found in breach of her Recognizance order as well. 880 CKLQ Expanding to FM

Courtesy:  CKLQ Press Release  Brandon MB, January 6, 2016 – AM Station 880 CKLQ has received approval from the Canadian Radio- television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to shift to FM while continuing to also broadcast in AM. “The FM band will allow listeners in and around Brandon to have better sound quality, while the AM band allows listeners from as far away as the Saskatchewan border and the U.S Border to continue listening to CKLQ, “ said Dave Baxter, President and CEO of Westman Communications Group. Westman owns and operates 880 CKLQ and 94.7 Star FM. “We’re extremely excited that the CRTC understood our desire to offer the enhanced sound qualities of FM to listeners in Brandon, and have approved to move CKLQ to the FM band,” said Cam Clark, General Manager of 880 CKLQ. Clark added, “We are allowed to the keep the AM as a repeater, so you’ll be able to continue to hear CKLQ on 880 in all of southwest Manitoba.
