The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks first home opener in franchise history goes this Tuesday against the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Andrews Field. A fireworks show is scheduled at the conclusion of the game. Owner Steve Wagner told told bdnmb.ca that plenty of work has been completed to provide the best overall experience for the fans. "The games will be fun for the fans, I can guarantee that" said Steve. "Ticket sales have been brisk as of late" he added. Amenities for fans include a "party deck" along the first base side, a supervised kids zone and a VIP section. Numerous activities will take place between innings bringing fans onto the field. There will be an apparel kiosk at the diamond for those fans looking to purchase some Whisky Jack's swag. An exciting food and beverage program will also be part of the overall fan experience. Floorball Brandon will be making several exciting changes/additions to their program this summer for the 2019 season. The league, established in 2011, will see games played at the Healthy Living Centre on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Dan Landry told bdnmb.ca that there were many advantages to moving venues including a more central location and seating for the parents. Previously games had been played at Nurses Residence Gym. They have also added a U17 division for players born in 2005-2004-2003. Floorball Brandon has entered into working relationship with Floorball Canada and will be promoting a top tier player each year to the Men's National Team. This player(s) will get an opportunity to represent Canada at the National Level at the the Floorball Championships 2020 in Helsinki Finland. The Brandon AAA U-18 Wheat Kings have hired 29 year-old Curtis Brolund as their new head coach for the upcoming 2019-2020 hockey season. Prior to coaching, Brolund played 2 seasons with the Brandon AAA U-18 program and 3 seasons with the MJHL's OCN Blizzard. His coaching resume includes one season as an assistant coach with the Blizzard (2011-2012) and parts of the last seven seasons as an assistant coach with the Brandon AAA U-18 Wheat Kings. This will be his first head coaching gig with the Brandon AAA U-18 Wheat King program.  The search to hire a new head coach began on April 10, 2019.

Earlier today, the Brandon Wheat Kings made an announcement that GM Grant Armstrong would not have his contract renewed by the hockey club. “I’d like to thank Grant for his contribution to our organization,” says McCrimmon, who was named the new General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Vegas Golden Knights last week. “He was responsible for many of the moves that will serve us well in the future.” “At the same time, I also felt a change was necessary as we look to return to a higher level as an organization,” he went on to say. No timetable has been set for naming a replacement.

The third and final week on the Source for Sports AAA Summer Hockey Challenge concluded earlier today with championship hardware being handed out in three different divisions. Sean White was named the tournament's top referee while Derek Sobkow and Cole McCaig shared the "Tyler Coulter Award" as the tournaments most dedicated coach. U10 In the U10 finals, Jade Pelland (2), Reese Shuttie, Shayla Scinocca, and Abby Oughton all scored for the Manitoba Monsters (pictured above) as they upended the Manitoba Hawks 5-1. Adriana Pepe picked up three assists for the Monsters. The Monsters only surrendered 2 goals in their five games played over the weekend. Payton Henwood relied for the Hawks in a losing cause. U12  Brooke Barylski scored 2 goals, including the eventual game winner, to lead the North Stars to a narrow 3-2 victory over the Westman Frostbite. Mackenzie Lizotte added a single marker for the North Stars. Dara Thompson scored both goals for the Frostbite. U14 The AHA Titans (pictured below) trailed the North Stars 2-0, before storming back to score three unanswered goals in claiming the U14 title. Scoring for the Ttians were Janelle Evans, Julia Duke, and Amy Divernichuk. Chloe Sorenson registered 27 saves in picking up the win. Tessa Stewart and Kate Johnson scored for the North Stars.
