The Wheat Kings have traded veteran right-winger Gunnar Wegleitner to the Kootenay Ice.  In return the Wheat Kings receive for a conditional sixth round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.   The Neepawa Natives announced that current Head Coach, Dustin Howden has become the team’s Head Coach and General Manager.  Howden has been the head coach for the past two seasons and he takes over as the team’s general manager from Myles Cathcart who resigned earlier in the month.   Former Waywayseecappo Wolverines forward Landyn Cochrane has committed to play ACHA Division 1 Hockey at Minot State.  The Russell, MB product spent four seasons in the MJHL.   Brandon’s new internet radio station, Channel ONE will be broadcasting Virden Oil Capitals games this season.  Veteran broadcaster, Ray Walker will handle the play by play duties.   Brodie Dupont is heading back overseas.  He has signed with  the Dornbirn Bulldogs in Austria for the upcoming season.  Dupont, from St.Lazare, has spent the last 10 years playing professionally in various leagues in both North America and Europe.   Three former Wheat Kings have also signed new deals overseas.  Mark Louis, a rugged defenseman, signed a one-year contract extension with the Cardiff Devils, Rihards Bukarts signed a one-year contract with the Schwenninger Wild Wings, and Sami Sandell signed a a tryout contract with Davos in Switzeland.

Game 3 – Smitty’s Terminators 7 Westman Magic 0   A five-run second inning helped the Terminators to the lopsided win in the opening game of the Championship for the host team.  Rianna Aasen had a solo home run as part of the big inning, and also singled and scored a pair of runs.  Jasmin Pipella took the loss for the Magic while Danielle Waychyshyn and Kaitlyn Slator had the only hits for Westman. Game 4 – Central Energy 6 Manitoba Thunder 3   The Energy used a four-run fourth inning to even their record at 1-and-1.  Nikki Newman and Hailey Yuskin had home runs for Central while Kassidy Cunningham went the distance to pick up the win.  C.C. Cyr took the loss for the Thunder, who had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Game 5 – Westman Magic 2 Manitoba Angels 0   Arjana Eilers recorded the complete game shutout for the Magic.  Sydney Cobbe and Kayla Burt scored the two ruys for the Magic.  Miranda Holod took the loss for the Angels. The U12 Westman Magic hosted a 4 team exhibition tournament this weekend at Ashley Neufeld Softball Complex. The Winnipeg Lightning, Winnipeg Angels, and Interlake Phillies joined the Magic to battle the heat and wind to play a full round robin schedule on Saturday, with playoffs taking place on Sunday. The Phillies and Angels squared off in the Bronze Medal Game with the Phillies coming out on top by score of 8 - 7. The Magic and Lighting met in the Gold Medal Game in a rematch of the final round robin game where the Lightning cruised to a lopsided victory. However, in this one the Magic jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back, running away with a 15 -0 Victory and their second tournament win of the Season. The U12 Magic will met these teams and others again in the U12 A Provincials held in Winnipeg July 27th - 29th. The Magic would like to thank Source for Sports, Dairy Queen, and Booster Juice for their Support. Submitted The U14 Brandon Heat defeated the Hamiota Red Sox for Gold at this past weekends Provincial Tournament in Winkler. The Heat went 7-0 throughout the tournament to capture the provincial title. They defeated Glenboro, Elkhorn and Pimicikamak in the round robin Friday and Saturday. Sunday they defeated Morden then Springfield to reach the semi finals where they defeated Souris to advance to the gold medal game against Hamiota. The final score was 6-4.
