Elmes signs in ECHL

Brandon’s Josh Elmes, a 6’2” defenceman, has agreed to play with the ECHL’s Rapid City Rush for the 2017-18 season.  Rapid City will be coached this season by former Brandon Wheat King Danny Tetrault. Earlier today BDNMB.CA was informed by Tetrault that he expects their hockey club will be bigger, tougher and have additional skill this season, due to an affiliation agreement with the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild, Elmes, who played last year in the SPHL with Evansville, was a fan favorite and is excited for the future with Rapid City. Winnipeg Lightning 2 Manitoba Angels 0 Rae Story and Natasha Elder combined on a one-hitter for Lightning, recording a total of nine strikeouts.  Kate Cornborough and Samantha Bradbury scored in the two-run 3rd inning for Winnipeg. Westman Magic 6 Manitoba Thunder 5 (8 Innings) The hosts pulled out a dramatic victory in their opening game, coming back from a 4-0 deficit with four runs in the top of the 7th inning.  Brennah McLaughlin had a two-run double in the 7th for the Magic while Lian Flett had an RBI single in the 8th.  Dani Hawryluk and Gaby Delorme had RBI hits in the three-run 1st inning for the Thunder. Central Energy 13 Interlake Phillies 4 Central opened their round-robin with a convincing victory over the Phillies.  Jolyne Leclair had two singles and scored three runs for the Energy while Olivia Goderis had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Manitoba Thunder 4 Winnipeg Lighting 3 Megan Tokar scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning as the Thunder emerged with the victory after letting a 3-1 lead slip away in the top of the 7th. Smitty’s Terminators 10 Westman Magic 2 Smitty’s scored five runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning and went on to the victory over the host team.  Jayda Neiles scored two runs for Smitty’s, who got at least one runs scored by all nine players in their lineup.  Bree Cloet and Brennah McLaughlin scored the runs for Westman. Central Energy 17 Eastman Wildcats 0 Lexi Nelson and Abbi Conrad scored three runs apiece to pace the Energy to their second straight victory.  Alexa Guilford allowed just one hit in three innings of work and was the winning pitcher for Central. Interlake Phillies 11 Manitoba Angels 4 Sarah Shewchuk’s based loaded triple in the bottom of the 6th inning put the exclamation mark on the Phillies first victory of the tournament.   Abby Cassidy and Maddy Fines had two hits and scored a pair of runs each for Interlake.
