Powerlifting Competition Coming to Brandon

On April 2nd, 2016, Brandon's newest 24/7 training facility, Embark Fitness, will play host to the first ever sanctioned powerlifting competition to be held in Brandon, Manitoba. Officially named the Westman Embark Open, it has come to be affectionately known as “The Wheat Meet” amongst Manitoba lifters. The Wheat Meet will feature over thirty lifters from the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Powerlifting Associations, competing both in full powerlifting (Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift) and/or "Bench Press Only" flights. Embark Fitness gym owner, Carrie White, has generously offered Embark Fitness as the venue for this inaugural Westman event. Meet directors Amanda Moffitt and Mathew Bowen, both of Brandon, have been thrilled with the number of entrants and of the interest of the local Brandon community at large. Carrie, Matt and Amanda would like to welcome any and all interested lifters, coaches, fans, friends and family to the event. Feel free to come on down and cheer on the lifters as they experience the thrill of The Manitoba Powerlifting Association and Embark Fitness. The Bench Press Only flight begins at 11:00AM, with the full powerlifting meet to follow. See you then! Pinkest Owl Golf Tournament

Submitted by: The Pinkest Owl Golf Tournament The tournament has been around since 1993, making this year the 23rd annual, being held on June 11th at Glen Lea Golf Course. The tournament is a ladies only golf tournament (which is rare in our area) and all proceeds from the event are donated to cancer programs and research. We are proud to say that for the past five (5) years we have been able to donate $5000 annually. The donation takes place in front of the tournament players as part of our event program. Past recipients of our donations have included Murray House and the Brandon Regional Health Centre. 2016 Tournament Registration & Details The most important reason for the tournament & the great day that we all have, is the contribution that we are able to make towards cancer programs and research. Almost every single woman that has participated or volunteered with The Pinkest Owl tourney has been touched by some form of cancer. This brutal disease touches the hearts of our sponsors and participants and we are proud as a committee to help invest in research, education and promotion programs related to breast cancer.
