Winnipeg Warriors, Junior Maulers, Southeast Bruins week 2 winners at AAA Hockey Challenge

The second week of the annual Source for Sports AAA Hockey Challenge is the books. The weekend saw over 40 teams compete for titles in three different divisions. Week 3 of the tournament takes place May 2nd – 5th. All games are held in Brandon and free to attend. 2013 Gold Ezra Ellams scored four goals and added an assist as the Junior Maulers extended its winning streak to three games with a 8-4 triumph over the MB AllStars 2013 at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Capping off the scoring for the Junior Maulers was Ben Blenkin with two goals, Cooper Galandy and Lucas Railton contributing with a goal each. Knox Thompson added two assists. Goaltender Jaxon Rausch turned aside 21 shots for the Junior Maulers in the win. Sniping for the MB AllStars 2013 was Dryden Kuhl, Jackson Kippen, Reilly Cooke and Xavier Daneault each adding single tallies. Kuhl added two assists. Goaltender Nixon Schilke made 31 saves in the loss for the MB AllStars 2013. 2013 Silver Tanner Preteau scored a hat-trick as the Southeast Bruins extended its winning streak to four games with a 7-4 win over the Dead Horse HC at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Rounding out the scoring for the Southeast Bruins was Destin Champagne and Brady Hebel, Harlow Kosman and Bodhi Blatz chipping in with a goal each. Champagne, Niko Funk and Treyson Drzewiec each added two assists. Goaltender Zander Jowett turned aside 14 shots for the Southeast Bruins in the win. Striking for the Dead Horse HC was Ridley Sambrook, Ethan Rutter, Dane Yeomans and Dylan Peters with a goal each. Sambrook added two assists. Goaltender Ryder Huck made 29 saves in the loss for the Dead Horse HC. 2012 Gold Brendan Bourgoin scored two goals including his fourth goal of the tournament with 8:55 remaining in the third period and and added an assist as the Winnipeg Warriors extended their winning streak to five games with a 6-5 triumph over the Wheat City Wild at J and G Homes Arena on Sunday. Completing the scoring for for the Winnipeg Warriors was Dylan Matthews with two goals and Miles Coy and Max Turcotte chipping in with a goal each. Rowan Whitely added three assists. Goaltender Cruz Morin turned aside 37 shots for the Winnipeg Warriors in the victory. Finding the back of the net for the Wheat City Wild was Emmitt Bell and Mason Shorting McKay with a pair of goals each and Nolan Harris with a single tally. Bell and Ayden Mott each added two assists. Goaltender Owen Lindenberg made 23 saves in the loss for the Wheat City Wild.

Brandon’s Jacobson named 23-24 CEHL U18 Player of the Year

The 2023-2024 CEHL U18 Player of the Year is Jaxon Jacobson of the @3Awheatkings ! The 2008 born forward recorded an incredible 136 points in 48 games, including 49 goals. Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks skate their way to Manitoba Senior ‘A’ Provincial title

In a thrilling culmination of skill, determination, and teamwork, the Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks triumphed in the Provincial A Hockey Championship defeating the Ste Anne Aces 2 games to 1 in their best of 3 series. Miniota/Elkhorn won the first game of the series 5-4, before dropping a 7-2 decision in game 2. They were then able to rebound in game 3, scoring a decisive 6-2 victory while claiming their second provincial championship. Game 3 of the series was played Sunday afternoon in Virden. The Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks advanced to the Provincial Senior A Final after winning the 2024 Tiger Hills Hockey League Championship, defeating the Killarney Shamrocks in the League Final.  The Ste. Anne Aces advanced to the Provincial Senior A Final after winning the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League Championship, defeating the Warren Mercs in a Best-of-Seven series. The victory was a testament to the unwavering dedication of every member of the Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks, from the players to the coaching staff and support personnel. It was a triumph not only of skill and athleticism but also of unity, resilience, and the unyielding pursuit of excellence.

Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings win OT thriller, advance to 2024 Telus Cup

The storybook season for the 2023/24 Brandon AAA Wheat Kings will continue, as earlier today they defeated the Saskatoon Blazers 1-0 in overtime to claim the West Regionals Championship Final. Brady Turko scored the lone and deciding goal for the Wheat Kings, while Burke Hood stopped all 30 shots he faced en-route to registering the shutout. BRADY TURKO CALLS GAME!! Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks repeat as THHL champions

Taylor Sanheim scored late in the 3rd period Saturday night to propel the Miniota/Elkhorn C-Hawks to a 3-2 victory over Killarney Shamrocks, helping the C-Hawks claim their second consecutive THHL title. Brad Boles scored twice in the contest for Miniota/Elkhorn, who won the best of 5 final series 3-1. Jason Bowles led all playoff scorers with an impressive 36 points in only 12 games. Teammate Brad Bowles finished a close second with 34-points, while Killarney's Isaac Friesen was 3rd with 24-points. Miniota/Elkhorn now advances to play the Ste. Anne Aces for Hockey Manitoba’s Provincial Senior “A” Championship. Ste. Anne won the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League championship last weekend and are lead by a pair of former Brandon Kings in Jordan DePape and Brenden Walker.
