Crossin, Dittmer named to AAA Bantam All Star Game

Calder Crossin and Carter Dittmer have both been selected to represent the Major Bantam AAA Wheat Kings at the leagues upcoming All Star Game. Crossin, a defensemen, has registered 28 points in 23 games to date on the strength of 9 goals and 19 assists. Dittmer, a forward, earned his spot onto the team picking up 25 goals in 20 games. He has also chipped in with 12 assists as well. The All Star Game will take place on Saturday Jan 11th, 11:45 am at the Iceplex in Winnipeg.

Local Brandon youth curlers are sweeping success

Jack Lyburn and his team from the Brandon Curling Club became champions of the U15 Canad Inns Youth Winter Bonspiel during the Christmas break, held at The Fort Garry Curling Club in Winnipeg. This is the teams third Bonspiel in Winnipeg this season. The first in October saw them reach the semi final and then in November they took the number one championship spot from 16 teams, in the Pembina Cash Spiel. This is the first year the team have curled together under the skip Jack Lyburn age 14, with the third Leyton Gouldie age 13, second Jaden Colbourne age 14 and lead Brogan Schneider age 13. The boys will be trying out at the U18 Regionals this year in Melita for a chance at provincials, no expectations but all good experience! This is just the beginning. All Star Catcher Returns to Brandon for the 2020 Season

As preparations continue for the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks 2020 Expedition League season, the team is excited to announce that an All Star and fan favorite will return to his spot behind the plate at Andrews Field. LUCAS ALLEN, a sophomore Catcher from Bellevue, Washington has committed to return to the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks for this summer’s Expedition League campaign. Allen is 6’2, 190lbs and attends the University of Northern Colorado (playing for the UNC Bears) in Greenly, Colorado. “This is fantastic to come back to Brandon this summer. We all had such fun in our first season there last year” said Allen. He added, “Now, with a new coach and new players coming in, we’ll definitely have higher expectations for sure”. An Expedition League All Star for the Lewis Division last season, Allen caught the most games for the club last season (45), batted .288, with 44 hits, 21 RBI’s, and 3 home runs. Brandon 9A1 Wheat Kings capture Winnipeg Jets Challenge Cup title

The Brandon 9A1 Wheat Kings upended the St. James Canucks 5-2 to claim the Atom 9A1 championship at the annual Winnipeg Jets Challenge Cup in Winnipeg. Talon Scinocca lead the way offensively registering two goals and an assist in Thursday's contest. Cohen Slobodian, Brayden Hamm, and Reid Nicol each chipped in with single markers for the Wheat Kings. The team went an impressive 6-0 in the holiday tournament outscoring their opposition 67-6 in the process. The final box-score from today's game can be found here.
