Boissevain Border Kings looking to reclaim THHL Title

The Tiger Hills Hockey League (THHL) season gets underway this Friday, October 25 with two games on the schedule. The 13-team league is once again split up into two divisions, Eastern & Western. The defending league champion Boissevain Border Kings kick-off their season at home against the Wawanesa Jets on Monday, October 28th at 8:30 pm. In conversation with bdnmb.ca earlier in the day, Border Kings general manager Ed Dyck said that he was extremely excited to get the season underway and was looking forward to the outstanding hockey the league's teams had to offer. The Border Kings have lost a few key players from last season's team and will be welcoming several new faces to fill out this year's roster. Darren Bestland, Kelly Glowa, Landon Cameron, Cody Matthewson, Jon Naturkach, and Jared Dueck will not be suiting up for the Borden Kings in 2019/20. Joining the team will be three local players Jay Pringle, David Robertson, and Bailey Robertson. Rylee Zimmer, Braedan Boschman, Dustin Claffey, and Erik Pushka are all character players who will be relied on for additional scoring depth throughout the season. As it relates to the Western Division, Ed expects the Killarney Shamrocks to once again be very strong this campaign. He also had high praise for both the Deloraine Royals and the Wawanesa Jets, indicating that both teams had added several new exciting players to their respective rosters for the coming season. For more information on the THHL, please follow their web site here.

Wheat Kings Burzan, Schneider named to Team WHL roster

Brandon Wheat Kings Luka Burzan and Braden Schneider were both named to the Team WHL roster which will compete against Team Russia at the 2019 CIBC Canada Russia Series on November 13 and 14 in Saskatoon and Prince Albert. Burzan, a forward, was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 6th round (#171 overall) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. NHL Central Scouting has identified Schneider on its ‘Players to Watch’ list as a top-ranked prospect for the 2020 NHL Draft. Brandon's Calen Addison was also named to the team. He is currently a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes and was a draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2018.

North Central Hockey League loses 3 teams, adds 2 new

The North Central Hockey League (NCHL) will feature eight teams this season including new additions in Langenburg and Waywayseecappo. Langenburg had previously played in the Triangle Hockey League in Saskatchewan. Each of the eight teams will play a 20 game season and the league will be divided into two divisions (North and South). Games are expected to begin in the first week of November. Three teams who played in the league last season will not return in 2019/20 including the Foxwarren Falcons, the Rivers Jets, and the Shoal Lake Eagles.
