City Council Highlights for October 5, 2026

Brandon Votes 2026: Municipal and School Board Elections
Council received a presentation from Senior Election Official Heather Ewasiuk on the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections. Election Day will be held on Wed, Oct. 28, 2026. Electors may vote at the voting place within their ward that is most convenient, or at one of the following all-ward voting places. Voting stations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Advance voting will take place on Wed, Oct. 14, Sat, Oct. 17, and Thu, Oct. 22. Additional voting opportunities are also available, including sealed envelope voting and special mobile polls. Visit brandon.ca/votes for more information.
Council received a presentation from Olivia Boyce highlighting the Brandon Food Council’s 2026–2028 Strategic Plan and upcoming initiatives, as well as the Food Rescue Grocery Store’s move to its new location at 241 – 8th St.
Agreement between the Province and Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure Highway Mowing
Council received an update on proposing a multi-year agreement with Manitoba Transportation & Infrastructure for mowing and grass maintenance along provincial highway routes within the City of Brandon. Discussions are ongoing.
Quotation – Tandem Truck for Brandon Airport
Council approved a bid from Connexion Truck Centre Inc. accepted for the purchase of one 2028 Freightliner 114SD tandem truck to provide year-around operational and maintenance activities at the Brandon Municipal Airport.
By-Laws:
- Council reviewed By-Law No. 5900 , which proposes updates to the Animal Control By-Law related to the number of pets per household, pet licensing, and general housekeeping. Council asked city administration to explore adding a lifetime pet license option. Second and third readings of the By-Law were deferred to the next council meeting on Oct. 19.
- Council gave first reading to By-Law No. 7465 to amend Organizational By-Law by removing the duplication of the Brandon Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee and establishing a Governance and priorities Committee and an Appeal Committee.
- Council gave first reading to By-Law No. 6634 to amend Procedure By-law No. 6634 by establishing provisions for Education Sessions of Council as a meeting format for Council information, training, and learning purposes.
The next regular City Council meeting will be held on Mon, Oct. 19, 2026 at 7 p.m. This will be the final regular meeting of the 2022 – 2026 Council. The general municipal election will take place on Wed, Oct. 28, 2026.
