Man Arrested After Sledgehammer Attack on Police Station Window

At approx. 9:30 AM Saturday morning, a 41 year-old male walked to the front of the police service building carrying a sledgehammer. The male suspect then swung the sledgehammer at one of the large windows, shattering both the outer and inner panes, before walking away carrying the sledge. He was immediately confronted by officers but refused commands to drop the sledgehammer and to stop. He turned to face the officers during which conducted energy weapons were deployed, without success. As the suspect continued towards the 10^th Street & Victoria Avenue intersection, he was challenged by another officer equipped with a less-than-lethal munitions weapon. The accused again refused direction and the munitions were deployed. The accused subsequently dropped the sledgehammer but refused to surrender: he was physically taken into custody. The male was held in custody and faces a number of criminal charges including mischief over $5000, assault police officer with a weapon, and resisting arrest. He will appear before the court today.
