Western Canada Hockey Academy Expands Athletic Programming with New Volleyball Program
The Western Canada Hockey Academy (WCHA) is expanding its athletic programming with the introduction of a new volleyball program for the 2027-28 school year. Developed in partnership with Kevin Neufeld, the program will provide students in Grades 7 and 8, along with students in Grades 9 and 10 through specialized high school programming, the opportunity to pursue volleyball while continuing their education in a private school environment.
Located at J&G Homes Arena in Brandon, the WCHA combines classroom learning with dedicated athletic development. The addition of volleyball builds on the academy’s commitment to supporting student-athletes through an approach that prioritizes both education and sport-specific training.
The volleyball program will operate as a full-time academic and athletic pathway, with students attending classes at the WCHA campus and travelling for specialized volleyball training, with transportation provided. Students will also participate in strength and athletic development in the on-site Performance Centre, working with a strength and conditioning coach.
Through small class sizes, personalized academic support and dedicated athletic training, the program is designed to help students develop their volleyball skills while continuing to work toward their academic goals.
“The goal is to provide student-athletes with a structured environment where they can focus on developing their volleyball skills, build a strong foundation and continue progressing as athletes while pursuing their education.” said Kevin Neufeld, volleyball program partner.
“We’re excited to expand the opportunities available to students at the WCHA. This program gives volleyball-focused students the chance to pursue their athletic goals while benefiting from small classes, personalized academic support and a school environment built around student development.” said Lesley Taggart, head teacher at the WCHA.
The WCHA’s athletic programming also includes hockey, golf, baseball and softball. The addition of volleyball creates another opportunity for students and families seeking an education that accommodates a focused athletic pathway.
