A longtime dream has officially become a reality in Ninette, where Pamela Stemmer has brought fresh home cooking, comfort food and a few creative twists to the community with the launch of a new food truck called Pelican Haus on Queen Street.

Located directly across from the Ninette Firehall, the food truck is quickly becoming a popular stop for locals and visitors looking for something hearty, homemade and a little different.

Stemmer says opening a food truck has been a dream for a long time, and now that the doors are open, the response has exceeded expectations.

“The response has been amazing!” she says.

The menu focuses on familiar comfort foods with plenty of opportunity to load them up. Customers can dig into loaded hotdogs, loaded baked potatoes, macaroni and cheese and nachos, along with weekly specials that give Stemmer an opportunity to keep the menu fresh and evolving. For weekly specials, you can check out their Facebook page here.

That variety is at the heart of the food truck’s concept: fresh home cooking with a menu that isn’t afraid to change.

For Stemmer, the inspiration behind the food comes from a wide range of sources. A self-described lover of cooking different cuisines, she draws on family recipes, food trends, traditional German dishes she grew up with and, most importantly, good old-fashioned home cooking.

Of course, there’s a twist or two along the way.

The result is a menu that combines familiar favorites with new ideas, giving customers a reason to come back and see what’s cooking next.

And judging by the early response, customers are already doing exactly that.

While Stemmer says it is difficult to choose just one favourite moment since opening, there is one part of the experience that stands out.

“I think it is the amount of repeat customers we have had already,” she says.

The food truck operates Thursday through Sunday on Queen Street, while Fridays bring another opportunity to find Stemmer and her food at the local farmers market.

For a small community like Ninette, a new food option can become more than just a place to grab a meal. It can become a gathering spot — a place where neighbours run into one another, visitors discover a local business and regular customers come back to see what’s on the menu.

Stemmer is hoping that momentum continues.

Looking a year into the future, her goal is a simple one: to remain busy and continue serving the community she calls home.

“Hopefully just as busy in our little amazing town,” added Stemmer.

For now, the message from Queen Street appears to be clear: Ninette has a new place to grab some comfort food, and if the early lineup of repeat customers is any indication, Stemmer’s longtime dream may be turning into a very popular local reality.
