Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At approx. 2:25 AM today, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of 6th St.  The driver, a 31-year-old Brandon man was found to be in possession of 3 cheques which had been previously reported stolen from the mail.  He was arrested for possessing stolen property as well as possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose as he was found to have a large knife.  He has been released from custody and will appear in court on December 21.

Taxi Smashes into Building

Before noon on Monday, Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and Brandon Police Service responded to the intersection of 10th Street and Princess Ave for a two-vehicle crash. A taxi and a minivan collided, which sent the taxi careening out of control and off the road. The taxi took out a set of hand rails as it rammed up the concrete steps of the old Westoba building, eventually smashing into the wall of the building. This intersection was the scene of another dramatic crash 3 years ago where a stolen car was crashed into a city bus, which sent the bus careening into a building on the north-west corner of the intersection. No word on injuries. Brandon Police Forensic Identification was on scene taking photographs.

Pair charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking

Brandon Police Service Media Release At 2:40 a.m. today, police stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Van Horne Avenue East. As a result of the investigation which followed on scene, police recovered cocaine and cash from the vehicle occupants. A 33-year-old female from Sioux Valley First Nation and a 31-year-old male from Brandon were released for court in January, both are charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.    

Police charge three impaired driving suspects

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 9:54 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle stop was conducted in the 600 block of 18th Street after a vehicle query showed that the vehicle was unregistered. The officer formed grounds to believe the vehicle operator was impaired and the driver was arrested. A 32-year-old male from Rivers provided samples of breath, which showed that he was operating a vehicle while exceeding the legal limit of alcohol. The suspect was released from custody and will appear in court in Brandon next week, and faces a charge of driving while impaired, driving over 80 mg%, and public mischief for initially providing a false name to police. At 12:57 a.m. today, police initiated a vehicle stop in the area of Patricia Avenue and Magnolia Crescent. The driver was arrested for impaired driving as he was under the influence of alcohol. The 22 year old male from Carberry was released after providing samples of breath in excess of the legal limit, and will appear in court next week, charged with impaired driving and driving over 80 mg%. At 1:25 a.m. today, police stopped a vehicle in the area of Rosser Avenue and Canada Crescent when it was observed travelling in excess of the posted speed limit, and was being operated in an erratic manner. A 31-year-old male from Brandon was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated. After providing breath samples, the male was detained in cells to be released later in the day once he was sober. The accused will appear in court in January, charged with impaired driving and driving over 80 mg%.

Male suspect faces Drug Trafficking/Weapons Possession changes, following downtown traffic stop

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 3:34 a.m. today, a 34-year-old male from Brandon was the subject of a traffic stop in the downtown area. When police approached the vehicle, the male was attempting to conceal a conducted energy weapon (commonly referred to by the brand name TASER). He was removed from the vehicle and searched incidental to arrest. As a result officers recovered a second conducted energy weapon, cash, a substantial amount of crystal methamphetamine packaged in smaller amounts for resale, and a small amount of fentanyl.  The suspect was lodged in cells at BPS and will appear before a Justice today for a remand hearing. He is charged with two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order, possession of proceeds of crime, and one count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
