Brandon Police Service Media Release At approximately 11:47 a.m., Police attempted to stop a vehicle that had been travelling the wrong way down a one way street however the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle continued east bound down Lorne Avenue striking a wooden guardrail in the 500 block of Lorne Avenue. The suspect then fled on foot but was apprehended by an off duty Brandon Police Service member who happened to be in the area. A 28-year-old Brandon man was arrested for Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Drive while Disqualified and had 2 Warrants for his arrest for numerous Breaches of Court Orders and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre to appear in Court today

Assiniboine Community College and Cape Breton University’s (CBU) Shannon School of Business are partnering to offer a Master in Business Administration (MBA) program in Community Economic Development starting January 2019 in Brandon, Man. “We’re excited to be partnering with CBU as we move forward with a new level of business programming here at Assiniboine,” said Bobbie Robertson, Dean, School of Business at Assiniboine. “This program offers Manitobans an incredible option for flexible, relevant postgraduate education close to where they live and work.” CBU’s MBA in Community Economic Development blends curriculum found in traditional MBA programs with an emphasis on economic development, leadership, change management, and governance. “This is a unique MBA offering across Canada,” said George Karaphillis, Dean, Shannon School of Business at CBU. “We have a strong track record of delivering this program across the country and we’re excited to present a compelling, valuable option for those in Manitoba exploring MBA programs.” CBU currently offers its MBA program in six cities across Canada in addition to its campus in Sydney, N.S. This includes Kingston, Toronto, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton and Whitehorse. Brandon Police Service Media Release At approximately 5:45 p.m., a female contacted Police advising she was assaulted by her husband at their residence in the 700 block of 23rd street. The assault consisted of the suspect pushing the victim against a wall. A 49-year-old man from Brandon has been arrested for Domestic Assault. He was released to attend Court in July. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries because of the assault.

Brandon Police Service Media Release Police responded to multiple bear spray incidents over the weekend. At 12:30AM Saturday June 9th police received a report that a 19 year old male has been sprayed with pepper spray while at the Fair. Investigation into this matter has led police to charge a 17 year old Brandon male with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a prohibited Weapon and Breach of Recognizance. This male will be appearing in court June 10th 2018. At 5:30 PM Saturday police received a report that two employees had been bear sprayed while working at the Brandon Shoppers Mall. The suspect fled the mall and was followed for a short distance. The suspect in this incident is described as approximately 20 years of age between 5’8” and 6’ tall, Aboriginal in appearance and wearing all black. Investigation into this matter is continuing. At 7:45 PM Saturday police received reports that numerous people have been sprayed with what was believed to be bear spray while attending the Fair. The victims were treated by EMS responders at the fair. Two Brandon youths have been arrested in connection with this incident. A 17 year old male has been charged with Possession with a weapon, a 15year old Male has been charged with Assault with a weapon and Unauthorized Possession of a prohibited weapon. Both males will appear in court June 10th 2018. Investigation into this incident is continuing with further subjects yet to be identified. At 9:20PM Saturday police received a report that 2 subjects have pepper sprayed a group of individuals in the area of Meadows school. This incident is still being investigated and no arrests have been made at this time.

Brandon Police Service Media Release  At 4:00 am, police conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of 1st Street North.  The driver, a 19-year-old Brandon female was arrested for impaired driving and returned to the Brandon Police Service where she provided two samples of her breath which were both more than double the legal limit.  The driver was charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Over .08 and Operating a Motor Vehicle contrary to 0 BAC condition of her driver’s license.  The female was released to a sober relative and will appear in court later in June.
