U15 Westman Magic, Brandon U17 Heat claim provincial titles

The U15 Westman Magic (pictured above) captured the 2022 Softball Manitoba U15 AAA Girls' Provincial title this weekend in La Salle. The team sported a 6-1 record following round robin play. The Magic then lost the 1 vs 2 game (4-0) Sunday morning against the Eastman Wildcats, before disposing of the Manitoba Angels (10-1) to force a rematch with Eastman for the crown. They avenged their loss earlier in the day and upending the Eastman Wildcats 5-2 to claim Provincial Gold. The Magic now advance to Nationals in Saskatoon (August 3-7), along with the Eastman Wildcats and Manitoba Angels. Brandon’s U17 Heat lead by veteran 3rd base Allie Pilling, Pitcher Kailyn Lang and Shortstop Payton Daciuk successfully returned the Manitoba U17 Softball Championship to Brandon this past weekend. Despite some adversity and injuries through round robin play the girls finished third in their pool. With a overwhelming quarter final win, the ladies advanced to the Championship game defeating Hamiota 9-6 in semifinal action. The Championship game held in Steinbach on Sunday resulted in a well played 7-2 win for the Brandon Heat over the RM of MacDonald team. This is the third year in a row the U17 Heat brought home provincial success, Gold in 2020, Silver in 2021 and Gold again in 2022!
