Community Connection: 20 Questions with Tyler Glen

Tyler is currently the Program Director/Morning Show Host at Star FM Brandon as well as the Program Director at Q Country 91.5FM.  Today, he took time out of his busy schedule to answer some of our questions. What did you want to be when you were growing up: An actor.  I wanted to move to Hollywood and be on a sit com.  Never say never.  ;) Do you recall the first person you interviewed live on air when you started your broadcasting career: Patricia Conroy in Houston's 1992 on Q Country.  Live in the bar before a show. Everyone knows your love of bacon. If you could have any one celebrity chef cater a bacon themed 5-course meal, who would that chef be: My Dad Vic.  Little known fact:  He was a Chef for Kokanos in Brandon "back in the day". A person in Brandon that you have not yet had the opportunity to interview but would like to:  He's not alive anymore but his kids are.  Tommy Douglas. My politics and his doesn't jive, but what that guy did to get Medicare off the ground in this country is amazing.  Plus with that answer I would defacto get to interview his kid Donald Sutherland and his grandson Kiefer Sutherland right?  :) Your fast food guilty pleasure: Hardees, In 'N Out Burger and Chic-fil-a, always when I travel. Minnesota Vikings make the Super Bowl, where are you watching the game: Wherever they are.  Love them!  My son David and I had rooms booked in Minneapolis after the "Minneapolis Miracle" thinking they would make it to the Super Bowl. They didn't. We almost flew to Miami the year Favre through the interception.  Even if we didn't go to the game, I would want to "be in that city, any city" where its happening. A movie you would watch again tonight: ET.  I cry every time.  Drove my kids crazy.  Best childhood movie ever. What are your last three Google searches: Pickled egg recipe, Canucks season Schedule, and temp in Nashville (watching football and weather was yucky) You have friends visiting Brandon for the first time, where do you take them:  Airplane museum, Crowe's General Store, Prairie Firehouse, Riverbank Discover Centre and Obermaiers. If you were trying out for Canadian Idol what would be your go to song: Wooly Booly.  Best Kareoke song ever.  Easy to sing, with just two words. What accomplishment in your career are you most proud of to date: Putting STAR on air in June 2000.  20 years next year, and a wonderful ride. What is the latest adventure that you went on: Travelling the 101 Freeway from Calabassas CA to Dodger Stadium for a game.  36 miles (roughly Minnedosa to Brandon). And the trip there too us 2.5 hours.  Trip home was 45 minutes.  That was an adventure! What would be the theme song to your life: Gipsy Kings - A Mi Manera - (will play at my funeral. Morbid sorry!) Which former co-worker would make the best talk show host: Guy named Wayne Whitten, or as he's known, CC in Z99 Regina.  He's good on air, but fearless and crazy and blunt off air. If someone gave him a no holds barred talk show, it would be HUGE! What TV show would you most like to make a cameo appearance in:  Easy answer....SNL.....LIVE FROM NEW YORK ITS SATURDAY NIGHT!  Always wanted to say it!  Least I can say it on bdnmb.ca What is the best gift that you have ever received: My children.  And my beautiful wife.  Best gifts ever, for without them I am nothing. A business from the past that you would like to see return to Brandon: Old Kokanos high end, five star, fine dining eatery.  Most people in Brandon don't remember that place but boy, it was incredible, but again I'm bias for obvious reasons. What song instantly puts you in a good mood: Tupac-California Love.  Literally can listen to it 1000 times. Your dream dinner party guests includes yourself and these three people: Jesus Christ, Buddha and Muhammad.  (I understand the irony of having to be "not of this world" to attend, but it would still be great conversation.  And endless wine!) If you could swap places with one person (living or dead), who would that be:  Let's end with some cheese:  would you believe, nobody? My life is not perfect, and the fact is, neither is anyone else's.  I might think I want to be John Bulushi but look how that ended up. John Candy?  Same thing.  I'm one of the luckiest guys you'll ever meet. Nobody gets everything they want, but I got most of it, and the ride isn't over yet.  I have a beautiful family, a job I love, in the place I grew up.  At a recent radio conference in Minneapolis, guys from Denver, Houston, Los Angeles and the Twin Cities all were trying to "get back" to their hometown for the back half of their career.  And when they hear my story, they say "I'm living the dream".  And I am.  I never take if for granted and I'm grateful every day.  And to prove it, this will be the first topic of my dinner party, where I say thank-you.  I am so lucky.  THAT enough cheese for you?

What Traits Do Lottery Winners Have? Characteristics of Lottery Players – In-Depth Look

The lottery is a game of gamble, and the players need to possess some characteristics to enjoy the game. Lottery needs to be played frequently to increase the person’s chances of winning. Whatever decision a player makes they need to ensure that it is the right decision. They need to consider their budget and work around it. 1.    Never Give Up When playing the best lottery game, the players learn never to give up. After playing for days with no chance of winning most players quit the game. Winners don’t give up on the game, and they continue playing till they have won. This persistence is what makes them winners. When someone starts playing the lottery, they need to be committed to the game. Play it without giving up and increase their chances of winning. 2.    Dream Big Dreams are valid, and the only way to achieve something is by dreaming big. Most of the successful people always dream big and put their focus on achieving that dream. When someone wants to make it in life, they need to visualise their goals and see what they want to achieve. This way, they can work towards achieving their goals. This applies to winners too. When someone wants to win the lottery, they have to dream big. Every time they go out to get a lottery, their dream should be to get the jackpot. 3.    Play Frequently When the participants want to win the game, they need to continue playing it. They should never give up on the game. They should keep in mind that any day they don’t play could have been their lucky day. Playing frequently increases their winning chances. This means that for a player to increase their winning chances, they need to keep playing. If it is not in their budget to play every day, they can opt to come with a plan on when to play. 4.    Celebrate Success and Wins People often forget to celebrate every small win that they get. In life, the small wins represent a great direction. When a player wins, they need to learn to celebrate and feel great because they deserve it. Winning a jackpot should not be the only reason to celebrate. Every small win is huge and should be celebrated. Little celebration and achievements make the winner feel great and like they’ve earned it. Even in business, making a small stride is usually celebrated. This encourages the person to aim bigger and strive to achieve their dreams. When the winner celebrates the small wins, they find themselves focused on winning something bigger. 5.    Learn All the Secrets and Skills to Winning When a person wants to play the game as a winner, they need to learn all the skills and secrets to winning. There are a lot of skills, tips and secrets of choosing the right odds and lottery numbers. A winner should have all the tools needed to make the exact predictions. The lottery is a game of probability and knowing how to decipher the numbers to get the exact one is a skill. The people learn the skill of calculating the numbers that were there in the last fifteen draws to come up with the most probable number to appear next. These calculations require a person to be patient and focused. 6.    Have A Winning Mind This is a great trait that all lottery players should have. They need to have a winning mind and think of themselves as winners all the time. Even when they lose, they should learn to shake it off and say they have won. Having a positive mind allows them to have the drive of focusing on the next game. Winners don’t seem to be bothered by the fact that they have lost a game. They take this as a lesson and perfect their skills of determining the probable numbers. Moreover, when they don’t allow losing to affect their game, they tend to gain more energy to play the game better. They make wise decisions on how they can perfect their skills and win the next time. Bottom Line When playing the lottery, the players need to learn the basic skills for them to win. The best lottery game is played by players with great traits to ensure that they can win the game. The players learn different skills and tips for winning a game.

How to Get Hired

Over the years I have been very fortunate to work at several great organizations, however, it wasn’t just by accident that I came upon these positions. I invested the time that was required to help land the jobs that I was applying for. In my current position, I receive résumés regularly and often help with the hiring process for different positions at Vionell Holdings Partnership, as well as at Rotary Villas. If you’re looking for a new job, I’ve put together a few tips to help make your résumé stand out from the pack, to secure an interview, and get the job that you are hoping for. Customize Your Cover Letter – do some research about the organization and the position so that you can tailor your cover letter. This can help to show why you would be a good fit for the position and what you can bring to that specific organization. It’s also important to highlight your experience and interests concerning the job posting. For example, if you are applying for a marketing position, be sure to indicate the related courses you took at college/university to show how you can use the knowledge gained to do a great job in the position. Follow Up with an Email or Phone Call – before the position closes, send an email to the hiring department to ensure they received your résumé. On occasion, a résumé that is emailed can end up in the spam folder (especially if there is no body text within the email). Be sure to mention that you are hoping to hear back about an interview. Don’t Apply for Multiple Positions at the Same Company – It’s important to be realistic on what you qualify for and not just apply for all positions possible. It doesn’t look favourable for you to apply for a professional, managerial/director position and also submit your application for a casual dishwashing position. Most job postings outline the qualifications required for each position, review them carefully. It is quite unlikely that if you have the required experience to run a division of a company, you aren’t going to be satisfied if you secure a position as a dishwasher. Do your homework – if you have been selected for a telephone interview or an in-person interview find out what you can about the company. Visit the website and social media platforms, ask people who are familiar with the organization about the culture and background. This will help you to answer interview questions relating to what you know about the company, and why you want to be part of the team. Dress for the position – if you are a painter, it is okay to dress in casual clothes, but you still need to look presentable and be properly groomed. If you are applying for a reception position, you should likely choose business-casual attire; if you are applying for a top-level position, a suit is the best option (a tie is optional for men). Show up on time – if you show up late for an interview, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage for the next steps in the selection process. Ask Questions – at the end of the interview, come prepared with a few questions to ask. This shows that you are interested in the position and working for the organization and that you put extra effort into preparing for the interview. Vionell Holdings Partnership (VHP) provides rental housing and property management for an array of residential and commercial customers, including Condominium Management. VHP currently has over 4,000 units under management in Manitoba.  For more information please visit www.vhproperties.ca.
