The weather cleared just in time for the Childhood Dreams Car Show held today at Meadows School. Hundreds of spectators had turned out by 1:00 pm to check out all the vehicles on display. Smoked & Sauced Mobile BBQ is on-site and they have DJ cranking out some tunes. The show goes today until 4:00 pm.

Winnipeg, MB - Today the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) announced it is donating $1 million to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The donation was unveiled by MMF President David Chartrand during his State of the Nation Address at the MMF’s Annual General Assembly. "Cancer is a disease that knows no boundaries, race or social background," said President Chartrand. "I am so proud that my Cabinet unanimously supported the decision to make such a sizeable donation to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. I know this will be money well spent as we all work towards lessening the impacts of this terrible disease for all Manitobans including our Manitoba Métis Community." All funds raised and donated to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation remain in the province. Donated funds support an internationally-recognized team of health professionals who provide care for patients and their families throughout Manitoba, northwestern Ontario and Nunavut dealing with a cancer diagnosis. "This announcement has a great deal of historical context attached to it," said President Chartrand. "Even though we are the founders of Manitoba, it has been a long and difficult path towards recognition of our rightful place as a government. Thanks to the reconciliation efforts of the federal government along with our sound fiscal management, we are now in a position to make this donation." MMF’s $1 million donation will help recruit, develop and retain the best and brightest cancer specialists along with providing critical funding to operate a state-of-the-art cancer research centre. It will also ensure access to clinical trials here in Manitoba and most importantly provides real hope for Manitobans and their families facing a cancer diagnosis. "It’s no secret that health care outcomes for Metis Citizens in Manitoba are troubling especially when it comes to accessing health services," said President Chartrand. "We cannot wait for government to effect positive change while people die from inadequate care. Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At approx. 9:35 PM Saturday evening, Police were called to an apartment complex in the 200 block of 16th St East for a possible stabbing.  Upon arrival, the victim was located in the vestibule area having suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body.  Officers continued to clear the building to ensure there were no more casualties, and in doing so encountered the 54-year-old male suspect.  The suspect was still armed with a knife at the time.  Officers deployed a Taser to safely gain control of and arrest the suspect.  The 43-year-old victim was taken to hospital and at last report was in stable condition.  The suspect was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre.  It is believed that the suspect and victim were living together in a Domestic relationship. The investigation is continuing.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At 11:00 AM Friday morning, Police received a report from a lady who indicated she had her purse stolen from her while she waited at a bus stop in the 800 block of Victoria Ave.  At 2:30 PM a second lady reported having her purse stolen from a shopping cart while in a parking lot in the 800 block of Victoria Ave.  A witness chased the suspect until police arrived and located the 31-year-old male hiding between houses in the 600 block of 10th St.  Stolen items from both thefts were located in the male’s possession.  He was lodged at the Brandon Correctional Centre until sober at which time he will be released with a court date of November 18th.

Source: Brandon Police Service Media Release At around 2250 hours, a business in the 3500 block Victoria Ave reported a suspicious male acting weird. Officers attended and located a very intoxicated male who had fallen off his bicycle and spilled his nachos and cheese all over him. A CPIC check was conducted that showed he was wanted by Calgary Police Service for sexual assault on an unendorsed warrant with a Western Canada radius. The 39 year old male was arrested and lodged at BCC on a 6 day remand awaiting Calgary Police Service to arrange for transport.
