Former Wheat King defensemen, Daniel Tetrault has been named the new head coach of the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL. Tetrault played in 247 regular season WHL games over 5 seasons (1995-2000) with the club. He also appeared in 4 games with the Wheaties at the Memorial Cup in 95-96. Last season he was an assistant coach with the Rush. Mike Kelly, who briefly spent time as a head coach for the Wheat Kings, was named an assistant coach with the Vegas Golden Knights. Kelly was the Wheat Kings head coach back in the 03-04 season, but was relieved of his coaching duties after starting the season with a 22-32-12 record. Kelly will assist head coach Gerard Gallant, and the two have worked together behind the bench as members of the Florida Panthers staff for several seasons (2014-17).

Ward, Barfield, Moseby & Alomar headline Blue Jays Baseball Academy in Brandon

This summer male and female baseball players in Brandon, aged 9-16, will have the opportunity to be a part of the #1 baseball camp in Canada. The Blue Jays Baseball Academy is partnering with Baseball Canada and Little League Canada to bring a Honda Super Camp to the Wheat City in mid-July. The two-day camp will offer children, of all abilities, the ultimate Major League experience. Participants will learn skills and techniques from former Major League All-Stars including Duane Ward, Jesse Barfield, Lloyd Moseby and Roberto Alomar. The cost for the 2-day summer camp is $209 (plus HST) and each participant will receive a Blue Jays hat, T-shirt, a baseball manual and the opportunity to get autographs from the Blue Jays alumni present. Brandon is one of 12 Canadian locations across Canada selected to host an event.  The camp will be held at Andrews field on July 18th & 19tth. For more information, or to register, click here.

Dmitry Osipov accepts invite to Vegas Golden Knights development camp

BDNMB.CA would like to congratulate defenceman Dmitry Osipov on his tryout invite to the Vegas Golden Knights first ever development camp. The camp runs June 27th to July 1st at the Las Vegas Ice Center. The camp roster will include those who are selected in the NHL Entry Draft in June and rookie free agents. Osipov was acquired by the Wheat Kings at the WHL's trade deadline last season, after several years as a member of the Vancouver Giants. The Moscow, Russia product appeared in 270 career Western Hockey League regular season games and 8 playoff games. A hard-hitting shutdown rearguard, he had 8 career goals along with 33 assists for 41 points over his career

BRANDON – Brandon University Athletics is proud to announce their 2017 Wall of Fame inductees, which includes eight individuals and two teams. The 2017 induction class includes: Neil Andrews Community Leader: Football (1965-1966) Debbie Baker (nee Morris) Athlete: Basketball, Field Hockey (1975-1980) Karen Dunbar (nee Anderson) Athlete: Basketball, Field Hockey (1968-1972) Peter Hagberg Athlete: Football (1969-1973) Doug Hedley Athlete: Hockey (1977-1982) Lorne Lagimodiere Athlete: Football (1968-1973) Ron Westcott Community Leader: Curling (1965-1969) Rick Williamson Community Leader: Judo, Football (1968-1972) Bobcat Men's Hockey Team (1980-81) College Caps Football Team (1950-51) The Dick and Verda McDonald Sports Wall of Fame is located on the second level of BU's Healthy Living Centre. The display features team pictures, artifacts, and uniforms from past teams and athletes of Brandon University and Brandon College. Tickets for the Wall of Fame brunch on Saturday, October 14 at the Victoria Inn Imperial Ballroom can be purchased from the Customer Service Centre at the Healthy Living Centre for $50. Boyd Stadium celebration & fundraiser

We are very pleased to announce our first annual Twilight Zaghareet celebration & fundraiser for the Westman project, Boyd Stadium. Boyd Stadium is a project aimed at benefiting the youth of the entire Westman region. This project will be Westman’s first premiere field complex featuring 2 full sized football fields and facilities. Named in Honor of the late Kevin Boyd, Boyd Stadium will be the new home of the Westman Youth Football Association, as well as the Minor and Major Junior Westman Wolverines. Twilight Zaghareet is taking place at the Victoria Inn on Saturday, June 17th at 7:00PM. Many dancers from a variety of dance styles will be performing including Egyptian Cabaret Fusion, Middle Eastern Belly Dance, Flamenco and more.
